To celebrate the Lunar New Year, we hosted a Kimono New Year’s Gathering at our home in Switzerland.
As we were unable to hold this event last year, we were truly delighted to spend a wonderful time with everyone this year.
On the event day, Blossom (@kimono.blossom.ch) kindly helped dress four participants in kimono.
Some attendees had the special experience of wearing a kimono or an obi passed down from their mothers or grandmothers for the first time.
This once again reminded us of the timeless beauty and significance of kimono.
We were also deeply grateful to welcome two guests who traveled from beyond national borders to join us.
We prepared a traditional osechi meal to celebrate the occasion, thoughtfully arranging each dish.
Although osechi requires advance preparation and is less demanding than sushi catering, it still took over 40 minutes to carefully set up the table.
Seeing the guests moved by the presentation made all the effort worthwhile.
A special thanks to Minako, who assisted with sushi rolling, serving, and tidying up throughout the event.
For the first time, we used a Wajima lacquer toso (sake) set sent from Japan.
We cherish this beautiful piece and hope to continue using it for many special occasions in the future.
Perhaps, it will even make an appearance at a wedding reception or other celebratory events one day.
We were honored to witness a table-style tea ceremony demonstration by Blossom, who became the first in the world to obtain the Tsubaki no Kai Table-Style Tea Ceremony Advisor Certification (Overseas Exclusive) last October.
She is also engaged in an inspiring SDGs initiative, creating handmade fukusa (tea cloths) from kimono fabric to promote sustainability.
We look forward to collaborating on many more cultural projects together.
Beginners are warmly welcome!
Even if you have no prior experience, we will carefully guide you so that you can confidently prepare tea, just like Blossom did.
